The Graduate in Letters has two classrooms on the 2nd floor of the Arts and Communication Center. These classrooms were renovated in 2006 and improved in 2007 with Audio and Video Project, aiming to offer greater comfort to students and teachers.

The Program coordination and secretariat work in the same space, internally divided, with a total area of 45 square meters. These spaces underwent a complete renovation in 2007, from physical restructuring, furniture and computer equipment exchange.

Still in 2008, further improvements were made with the replacement of internal partitions, furniture requalification, renovation of computer equipment, among others. These improvements were made with the advice of a professional Interior Designer who also assisted with the Reading Room and Lab renovations.

In the coordinating space, there are two workstations with integrated desks, two 17-inch LCD computers, an inkjet printer, two built-in cabinets, a security cabinet, a split air conditioner, a machine and a telephone extension. The computer lab currently has 06 computers, a 42-inch LCD television and an attached study room.

Memory

The UFPE Graduate in Letters was born in 1975, through the creation of a Specialization course. The successful experience resulted in the formation, in the second semester of the following year (1976), of two Masters courses, one in the area of Linguistics and the other in the Theory of Literature, which were recognized by CAPES in 1980. PhD in Linguistics and Literature, in turn, were initiated, respectively, in 1990 and 1996.

UFPE's Postgraduate Degree in Letters was the first Program to be installed between the Northeast and North of the country. In its more than 40 years of existence, it has developed and consolidated a long research tradition in both areas in which it operates. During its trajectory, the Program has been attracting students from various states, such as Bahia, Alagoas, Amazonas, Roraima, Piaui, Ceará, Paraiba, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Federal District, Pará, among others. As a result of the Program's effort and investment in research and teaching up to December 2018, 750 master's dissertations and 267 doctoral theses were defended, totaling 1017 completion works. Many of the students graduating from the Program are teaching in public or private institutions of higher education or basic and elementary education. The formation of critical mass, marked by the diversity of research in various subareas of Linguistics and Literature, is defined as a contribution to the area of Letters and legitimizes and reinvigorates the mission of the Program nationwide.

In the Graduate in Letters, there are Research Nuclei and Research Groups in operation, being 18 (eighteen) linked to the Research Lines of Linguistics and 19 (nineteen) linked to the Lines of Literature Theory. The Research Nuclei reflect and underlie the constitution of the eight existing Research Lines in the Program, which are distributed as follows: four lines in the area of Linguistics (Description and structural and historical analysis of languages, Discourse Analysis, Textual Studies discursive social practices, Analysis of language practices in the field of teaching) and four lines in the area of Literary Theory (Literature, society and memory, Literature and Intersemiosis, Literature and Cultural Studies / Postcolonial, Comparative Literature).

In 2019, there are 33 accredited teachers in the Program, of which 28 are permanent. Of the total teachers, 15 work in the area of literature and 17 in the area of linguistics (1 teacher works in both areas of concentration). They all belong to at least one Search Core and one of the Lines listed above. Four of the professors are CNPQ Researchers, with a Research Productivity / CNPq scholarship, levels 1D and 2. Each professor has at least one research project registered in the University Chambers and / or approved by funding agencies.
